What can I use to protect my handmade embellishments that has a matte finish?

February 15th, 2007

Question:
Hi,  I have been using chipboard without a wax coating and permanent acid free adhesive.

I want to add a matte coating over my letters and projects due to the paper getting bumped or nicked up.

As a protective layer what archival product can I use to spray or brush on my embellishments to get a matte finish?  I don’t like modge podge, even the new stuff leaves a tackyness to my embellishments even when I leave the layers dry for 24 hours.

Answer:  My favorite matte finish protector is actually a spray-on coating from Krylon.  I use it on paper, chipboard, or wood.  It definitely has a matte finish and protects it against wear and tear.  If you don’t purchase it here, I would look for a finishing spray in the craft aisle of your local store.  Most stores that I know of do carry the Krylon brand, but really any clear finish that specifically says “matte” is what you want.
