Question: How do I get started with scrapbooking and what tools do I need?

February 20th, 2007

Question: Do you know the tools I will be needing to get started scrapbooking and where I can get them. I know you can get some of them at Michael’s, Target, Wal-mart, and Wishing Well.  But I wanted to know how to start my first page?  I’m doing one of my friends, family, and people that surround me.  Can I get one of those cameras that have your picture in it and then you would just have to print it out.  What kind of camera can I use?

Answer: I buy most of my stuff online, which you can do from our site - www.scrapbookfinds.com.  If you need to start right away, though, I would go to any store that sells scrapbooking supplies.  The places you mentioned would be a good place to start.  Read my article on the basics of scrapbooking for more info on products to use.  I would definitely invest in a good paper cutter/trimmer and some paper.  The rest of the embellishments ideas you can use from my article.

As for a camera, definitely go digital if you are buying a new one.  But any camera will be fine for scrapbooking as long as you can develop or print your photos.  You can get digital cameras as cheap as $20-$30.  If you have the means to get a higher quality one, I would suggest one with at least 4 or 5 pixels so you can print 8×10 photos if you need to.   As a professional photographer, I have an SLR (basically a camera where I can change the lens and make manual adjustments).  You don’t need one like that.  You can get just a compact camera.  I like Nikon cameras, but Canon is great too. These can range from $200-$300 for a good one to even more.
